The Crime Spike Persists? Fact Check TV

Leaders of the San Diego police officers’ union described an alarming trend in a letter published by Voice of San Diego last week. They claimed crime had risen in the city for six straight months.

In this edition of Fact Check TV, Andrew Donohue and Scott Lewis examine the city’s crime statistics and whether the union’s statement was accurate.

The union leaders didn’t dispute our findings. Jeff Jordon, the union’s vice president, thanked us for correcting the record. He wrote in an email last week:

You should rate it false. The op-ed relied on information from [the Police Department] as it was explained. If it’s not accurate then say it. It is why I respect VOSD, and we will work harder to make sure there is more clarity.
